I think I'm tired of not having enough time to write anymore. I keep getting ambushed by insane plot bunnies from fandoms I don't even read. For instance, reading this review of an original Star Trek episode combined with a surfeit of Star Trek reboot fics has resulted in a dizzy little bunny who won't sit still, much less attempt to make sense. There's quite a bit of discussion (in the review and in the comments) about how TOS Spock differs from nuSpock (did I spell that right?) and how thefourthvine's conception of Sarek and Amanda being complete whacko nutjobs could be convincingly presented as a case for TOS Spock being the way he is. There's a note about how the reboot has Spock being "more Vulcan than Vulcan" and how it could have been any Vulcan, really.

So I have a little plot bunny running around, nudging this, chewing up that, and digging a hole over there just because she doesn't like the decor/background. It's kind of cute, a little bit disturbing, and has me rather amazed by how much I've managed to dislike a movie I've never even seen, but hey. I'm writing a little.

Welcome to the world of swine flu.

Technically my doctor's note says "viral illness" - my nasal swab came back negative for flu, but she said that since I was showing pretty much every flu symptom, she has me on Tamiflu anyway. Given the time of year, if it is flu, it probably is the H1N1 variant and not the regular human one. I had to call out of work for the next few days and I have to email my teachers.

I am SO PISSED OFF.

Chicken needs Squishy - my new favorite web comic. My sister introduced it to me by saying, "Oh, speaking of rabbits, have you read Looking For Group?" Two hundred seventy-nine pages and a few hours later, the rabbit had appeared perhaps a half-dozen times.

The PS2 issue has theoretically been resolved (apparently you have to call a different number to get warranty/PRP information, and the people whom the guy called don't know about this other phone number or the actual PRP policy) and hopefully I will get him a working console as soon as I stop being sick. Bleagh. Yes, I am sick again. Still. Whatever. I feel horrible and I go through tissues at an alarming rate. Don't come near me.

More annoyingly, I have discovered that Bitty, due to his running Firefox under Ubuntu Linux 9.04 on a very limited machine, is not able to play videos, flash animation, or otherwise pretend that I have a non-dialup internet access. That's really kind of disappointing. On the other hand, it pretty much guarantees that I use him for schoolwork (which is the entire reason for his existence), so it's not actually a bad thing.

The PS2 blew up (again). I can't find the warranty receipt and the new policy is that if you lose the receipt, your warranty is gone. WTF?

In the meantime, my brother thinks that he wants a PSP instead. I've lent him mine (we traded in a bunch of his old games so we could buy him a PSP game he actually likes) so he can decide if he actually wants it.

My bedroom door no longer opens all the way. But I have assembled an exercise pen where Clarissa and Sally can take turns getting a little bit of exercise. (In a pinch, it could even be used to house a fourth (!) rescue.

... what a day.

Holly had two mummified fetuses removed today. She is recovering from surgery now. She is one of four bunnies received from a kill shelter last Monday; she had not been eating well or acting like a healthy rabbit. I brought her in for an exam today as bunny lady and I both felt that she was simply not doing well, more so than could be expected from the stress of relocating to a completely new home. She had radiographs (X-rays) taken as the vet felt a hard mass near her kidney, which revealed the two fetuses. An ultrasound indicated that they were not viable (alive) and after running blood work, we opted to ask him to perform the surgery. Upon examination, it turns out that she had indeed been spayed, and these had been the result of an ectopic pregnancy (outside the uterine horns where rabbit fetuses normally develop). As they were located up near her kidneys and would have been hidden by her intestines when the spay was performed, it is understandable that they had gone undetected until the tissues got to the point where they were causing her health to decline.

In the middle of all this, I rushed to a dual adoption interview with other rabbits (the original plan had been to get Holly checked out, and to include her if the vet judged her to be healthy), only to discover that one of the adopters had basically bowed out for the day. We then had to rush back to the vet to get Holly before they closed.

On the plus side, Miranda is going to a very good home, and we hope that she will eventually bond with her new housemate.

On the minus side, we are out a rather large vet bill (donations accepted via http://www.rabbitalliesct.org/), and we remain in overload status.
